The service life mark
How long it lasts
Wool, sheepskin and bridle leather. Natural fibres with a real wear point, all of them repairable, most of them better at year ten than year one.
What wears first
The base corners, which abrade on stone.
A worn corner can be patched from the inside with a canvas patch and wax; the tote is stitched, not bonded.
Replacement part
None stocked, because there is no part to replace — this piece has no consumable and nothing on it is fastened.
A service life figure is our estimate of how long this piece lasts in ordinary household use. It is not a warranty and not a guarantee of replacement — the warranty is stated separately in the terms. How the figure is arrived at is explained on service life.
What it is
A stiff-sided waxed canvas bucket with a bridle-leather bound rim, for kindling, fatwood and the small dry stuff. It stands up on its own when empty, which a soft tote does not, and that is the whole reason to buy this shape.
10 inches across and 12 tall — about three days of daily fires.
What it is not for
- Not for ash, embers or anything warm.
- Not waterproof. Water-resistant, and only while the wax is intact.
- Not machine washable.
