The service life mark
How long it lasts
Wool, sheepskin and bridle leather. Natural fibres with a real wear point, all of them repairable, most of them better at year ten than year one.
What wears first
The stitching where the leather handle meets the canvas — not the canvas and not the leather.
The handles are riveted and stitched. Replacement handle sets and waxed thread are stocked, and any cobbler can re-stitch it in twenty minutes.
Replacement part
Stocked. Email support@summitflint.com with the stamp mark CY-01 and we will send you the part.
A service life figure is our estimate of how long this piece lasts in ordinary household use. It is not a warranty and not a guarantee of replacement — the warranty is stated separately in the terms. How the figure is arrived at is explained on service life.
What it is
A flat sling of 18 oz waxed cotton duck with bridle-leather handles, riveted and hand-stitched. It carries about four medium splits and it lays flat on the woodpile, which is the part that matters when you are loading it one-handed in the cold.
The wear point is the stitch line at the handle, and it is the wear point on every carrier of this shape. We have riveted behind the stitching so a failed thread does not become a dropped armful of wood, and we stock the parts to re-do it.
It will crease and mark within a week. Waxed canvas does that and it does not come out.
What it is not for
- Not rated above 50 lb. It will hold more and the stitching will not.
- Not for hot ash or embers under any circumstances. This is for cut wood only.
- Not machine washable, and dry cleaning destroys the wax finish.
