The service life mark
How long it lasts
Wool, sheepskin and bridle leather. Natural fibres with a real wear point, all of them repairable, most of them better at year ten than year one.
What wears first
The whipped edge at the corners, where it is gripped and dragged.
The whip stitch is hand-worked and can be re-run by anyone with a wool needle; we include a card of matching yarn in the box.

None stocked, because there is no part to replace — this piece has no consumable and nothing on it is fastened.

What it is
A heavyweight blanket in undyed carded wool from a single flock, whip-stitched at the edge by hand. The greys and the warm browns in it are the fleece colours — nothing here is dyed, which is why the shade varies a little from batch to batch and why it will not fade.
It is 4 pounds, which is heavier than most blankets sold as blankets and is the weight at which wool actually holds heat rather than just covering you. It is not soft in the way a brushed cotton throw is soft, and it is not going to become soft. It is a working blanket.
The card of matching yarn in the box is there because the whipped edge is the part that goes, usually at a corner, usually around year fifteen, and half an hour with a needle adds another decade.
What it is not for
- NOT a fire blanket and not for smothering a fire. Wool ignites less readily than synthetic fleece; that is not the same as fire-resistant and it must not be used as safety equipment.
- Not machine washable and not tumble-dryable at any setting.
- Wool this coarse is itchy against bare skin for some people. It is a blanket to go over something, not next to you.
