The service life mark

How long it lasts

10–25 yr

Wool, sheepskin and bridle leather. Natural fibres with a real wear point, all of them repairable, most of them better at year ten than year one.

What wears first

The fringe, which thins and tangles at the ends.

A tangled fringe can be trimmed back and re-twisted by hand.

Replacement part

None stocked, because there is no part to replace — this piece has no consumable and nothing on it is fastened.

A service life figure is our estimate of how long this piece lasts in ordinary household use. It is not a warranty and not a guarantee of replacement — the warranty is stated separately in the terms. How the figure is arrived at is explained on service life.

What it is

A twill-weave throw in the dark end of the undyed range, sized for a chair rather than a bed. Lighter than the camp blanket at 2 pounds 6 ounces and softer, because the twill and the finer yarn both work in that direction.

The dark charcoal is the natural colour of the fleece it came from, sorted rather than dyed. Over years it will lighten slightly at the folds. That is wool, and it is not reversible.

What it is not for

  • Not a fire blanket. See the note on the camp blanket — the same applies.
  • Not machine washable.
  • The fringe is a snag risk around a dog's claws and a rocking chair runner.
