What wears first
The pivot, which loosens slightly over decades and can be peened tight again.
The rivet is peened, not bolted; a loose pivot is tightened with two taps of a ball-pein hammer.
Replacement part
None stocked, because there is no part to replace — this piece has no consumable and nothing on it is fastened.

What it is
Scissor-action tongs with forged jaws that curve inward, so a round log is held rather than balanced. The pivot is a peened rivet — a bolt would be easier to make and would work itself loose every season.
26 inches, which is short enough to control and long enough to keep your hand out of the opening. The jaws will take a log up to about 7 inches across.
What it is not for
- Not rated for lifting more than about 25 lb — these are for repositioning a log, not for carrying one across a room.
- Not for a closed wood stove.
