The service life mark

How long it lasts

25–40 yr

Blackened steel and solid brass, no moving parts. The finish softens with heat and handling — that is the finish working, not failing.

What wears first

Nothing that fails. The tip loses its finish first and keeps working indefinitely.

The ash handle is pinned and can be driven out and replaced; handles are stocked.

Replacement part

Stocked. Email support@summitflint.com with the stamp mark FT-02 and we will send you the part.

A service life figure is our estimate of how long this piece lasts in ordinary household use. It is not a warranty and not a guarantee of replacement — the warranty is stated separately in the terms. How the figure is arrived at is explained on service life.

What it is

A single poker, sold on its own because the one tool people actually use every night is the one that ends up bent. Half-inch round bar, drawn to a point and given a single side hook for rolling a log rather than stabbing it.

At 32 inches it reaches the back of a standard firebox with your hand outside the opening. Shorter pokers are cheaper to ship and are the reason people burn their knuckles.

What it is not for

  • Not for a closed wood stove — the handle is unshielded.
  • Not a lever. The bar will take a set if you use it to lift a heavy log off the grate; use the tongs.
