The service life mark
How long it lasts
Wool, sheepskin and bridle leather. Natural fibres with a real wear point, all of them repairable, most of them better at year ten than year one.
What wears first
The stitching at the log carrier handles, at roughly year fifteen.
Carrier handle sets, waxed thread, ash handles and striker strips are all stocked.

What it is
What a first fireplace actually needs, which is less than a full hearth and more than a poker. One good poker, something to bring the wood in, something to keep the kindling in, somewhere for the matches, and a blanket for the chair.
Deliberately without a fender or a full tool set — those are worth buying once you know how you use the room, and buying them on day one is how people end up with a stand of four tools they use one of.
What it is not for
- The blanket is not a fire blanket and must not be treated as safety equipment.
- No spark guard or screen is included, and this set does not replace one.
- Matches are not included.
